Tips to reduce water requirements

We recommend mulching the beds
Experience has shown that by covering the floor with hay or straw, evaporation can be reduced by 80%. If you keep the beds evenly moist, an optimal humid microclimate will be created under the mulch. This not only promotes the growth of plants, but also enormously reduces water consumption. On our farm we only water every 2-3 days and irrigate a 200 m2 cultivation area in the Algarve in Portugal with 500l of water. Our beds are always moist, which promotes plant growth and harvest quality.

It is also advisable to keep the beds moist at all times, even if the bed is not used for a certain period of time
The desiccation of the soil leads to a huge decline in micro-and macro-organisms in the soil, resulting in a barren soil over time. Tests have shown that the water content in the entire bed with full-scale irrigation remains longer than if watering is only carried out selectively. Due to the small volume of the poured surfaces, in contrast to the large dry volume, they dry out faster than if the entire volume of the bed is filled with moisture. Similar to heating in an apartment.

Maintaining an energy level always requires less energy than having to achieve it again and again.

The oak leaf lettuce 'Bijella' is an annual medium-sized, very compact egg leaf salad from Germany from the 20th century. Jah rounds. This still young salad variety has been selected by Benjis for over 15 years and further developed for resistance for cold and hot locations. The upright and higher growing plants are stable against rot and can be sown year-round in subtropical climates. The variety forms a fresh green heart with delicate reddish-brown and crisp leaves that have an excellent aromatic sweet taste. Shot-proof, good camp ability and suitable for growing lettuce.

General
We recommend a dense no-till row as a lettuce cultivation or a pre-culture. In the pre-culture, sow the seeds in a small bowl and let the seedlings grow to the first visible lettuce leaves, then pik into the desired container. After peckering, let the seedlings grow at moderate temperatures until they are planted out as seedlings. The planting of the seedlings in the bed is carried out from the 2nd Pair of leaves after the cotyledders.
Eichblatt lettuce prefers a sunny to partially shaded location with a moist, humus-rich and slightly loamy soil. Avoid waterlogging.

Additional tips
Cold and heat resistant. For a long harvest period, harvest 1/4 of the leaves from the outside to the inside, taking care not to damage the heart to keep growth stable. In order to quickly obtain a fine, crumbly and well-drained soil, an additional incorporation of biochar and primeval rock flour is recommended.

Type of propagation
Spread occurs via seeds.

Care Plants
A loosened soil and planting in mixed culture is sufficient for lettuce.

Germination ability of seeds: 3-4 years
