Tips to reduce water use

We recommend mulching the beds.
Experience has shown that covering the ground with hay or straw can reduce evaporation by 80%. Keeping the beds evenly moist will create an optimal moist microclimate under the mulch. This not only helps the plants to grow, but also reduces the water consumption enormously. On our farm we only water every 2-3 days and irrigate a 200 m2 cultivation area in the Algarve in Portugal with 500l of water. Our beds are always moist, which promotes plant growth and crop quality.

It is also advisable to keep the beds moist at all times.
Even if the bed is not used for a certain period of time. Drying out the soil causes a huge reduction in the micro- and macro-organisms in the soil, resulting in an infertile soil.
Tests have shown that the addition of water to the entire bed is lower over a longer period of time than if it is only poured selectively. Due to the small volume of the poured areas, as opposed to the large dry volume, they dry out faster than if the entire volume of the bed were filled with moisture.

The tansy is a very old perennial, undemanding, wild perennial, dyer's plant and medicinal plant from Europe and Asia. It has numerous bright yellow flower heads and finely pinnate, fern-like leaves. It has strong growth and spreads quickly via runners. Thanks to its essential oils, it exudes a striking, aromatic and spicy scent. The tansy can be used in a variety of ways to secure slopes and a fermented broth can be prepared from it as a biological pesticide to keep whiteflies, lice, mites and other pests away. The plant likes to grow in moist to dry pastures and always stretches its leaves to the south, which is why it is also used to determine the direction of the compass.
Tansy is poisonous. Skin reactions can be caused by contact. Pregnant women should avoid contact with tansy. Only recommended for external use.
It is an important host plant for some caterpillars, butterflies and beetles.

Planting information
In areas with mild winters, tansy is sown in spring at temperatures of 15 to 18 ° C in February to April. In northern, cooler areas, sowing takes place at identical temperatures in spring from March to April.
Direct sowing, broadcast sowing or row sowing are recommended.
This variety is undemanding and prefers a sunny, moist to dry location with humus-rich loamy soil.

Ingredients
Important ingredients are essential oils, bitter substances, lipids, inulin and resins.
The substance thujone makes up 95% of the essential oils in tansy and has toxic effects in large quantities.
The tansy has a refreshing effect, regulates menstruation, has an effect on the stomach (stimulating digestion), has an anthelmintic effect, relieves pain and acts as a biological insecticide.
