Tips to reduce water use

We recommend mulching the beds.
Experience has shown that covering the ground with hay or straw can reduce evaporation by 80%. Keeping the beds evenly moist will create an optimal moist microclimate under the mulch. This not only helps the plants to grow, but also reduces the water consumption enormously. On our farm we only water every 2-3 days and irrigate a 200 m2 cultivation area in the Algarve in Portugal with 500l of water. Our beds are always moist, which promotes plant growth and crop quality.

It is also advisable to keep the beds moist at all times.
Even if the bed is not used for a certain period of time. Drying out the soil causes a huge reduction in the micro- and macro-organisms in the soil, resulting in an infertile soil.
Tests have shown that the addition of water to the entire bed is lower over a longer period of time than if it is only poured selectively. Due to the small volume of the poured areas, as opposed to the large dry volume, they dry out faster than if the entire volume of the bed were filled with moisture.

Peppermint is a perennial aromatic, spice and medicinal plant that has been known since ancient times. It has been known in Europe since the 17th century. It arises from a natural cross between water mint and spearmint and is native to parts of Asia. Peppermint is characterized by its high menthol content, which is released when the leaves are crushed. Peppermint is hardy, likes to grow in partial shade and develops white-pink flowers.

Planting information
In areas with mild winters, peppermint is sown in spring at temperatures of 16 to 22 ° C from March to May or in autumn from September to October. In northern, cooler areas, sowing takes place at identical temperatures in spring after the last frosts in April to June. It is recommended to pre-grow in small boxes and then individually from March onwards. This variety thrives ideally in a partially shaded and moist location with a permeable clay soil.

Ingredients
The most therapeutically effective ingredients are menthol, menthol ester, menthone and menthofuran. In addition to the essential oil, peppermint leaves also contain vitamins and trace elements as well as various phenols from the family of health-promoting secondary plant substances. Other important ingredients in peppermint are flavonoids and tannins such as rosmarinic acid.
