Carrots

Carrots are among the oldest cultivated root vegetables of Eurasia. Early forms emerged from wild umbellifers and were already used and further developed in ancient cultures. Through regional cultivation and trade routes, numerous types evolved over time, differing in shape, colour and flavour. Their diversity ranges from slender, tender early carrots to strong, elongated or rounded varieties, as well as colour forms in orange, yellow, white, red or deep purple.

In subtropical climates, carrots thrive almost year‑round thanks to their winter hardiness; even in midsummer they can be grown reliably with good water supply. In temperate regions, many of our traditional and historically preserved open‑pollinated varieties perform well, growing robustly from spring into autumn and forming uniform, aromatic roots. Carrots show excellent ecological adaptability and can be cultivated reliably in many climate zones when sown at the right time.
