Tips to reduce water requirements

We recommend mulching the beds
Experience has shown that by covering the floor with hay or straw, evaporation can be reduced by 80%. If you keep the beds evenly moist, an optimal humid microclimate will be created under the mulch. This not only promotes the growth of plants, but also enormously reduces water consumption. On our farm we only water every 2-3 days and irrigate a 200 m2 cultivation area in the Algarve in Portugal with 500l of water. Our beds are always moist, which promotes plant growth and harvest quality.

It is also advisable to keep the beds moist at all times, even if the bed is not used for a certain period of time
The desiccation of the soil leads to a huge decline in micro-and macro-organisms in the soil, resulting in a barren soil over time. Tests have shown that the water content in the entire bed with full-scale irrigation remains longer than if watering is only carried out selectively. Due to the small volume of the poured surfaces, in contrast to the large dry volume, they dry out faster than if the entire volume of the bed is filled with moisture. Similar to heating in an apartment.

Maintaining an energy level always requires less energy than having to achieve it again and again.

Lady's mantle is an ancient perennial wild tea and medicinal plant that can be found in Europe, Asia and North America. The perennial has round, lobed and finely toothed leaves, with yellowish small flowers and has always been used to treat women's diseases. The tannins and saponins contained have a diuretic effect, increase the activity of the glands, have an anti-inflammatory effect, relieve menstrual pain and contribute to the healing of birth injuries as well as general wound healing. In damp weather and especially in the morning hours, the lady's mantle secretes water from special glands on the edge of the leaf, which collects as drops in the middle of the leaf. This water was once considered healing water and was collected by alchemists. Food source for many insects, pasture for bees.

Subtropic climate (Mediterranean) (e. g. B. Portugal, Spain, Italy)
We recommend pre-cultivation in small pots from January to April.

Moderate climate (e. g. B. Germany, Switzerland, Poland)
We recommend pre-cultivation in small pots from March to June.

In warm locations, artificial stratification at 0°C for 2 weeks is necessary for the seeds to germinate. When pre-cultivating, sow the seeds in small pots and let the seedlings grow to the first visible lady's mantle leaves. Then plant the pregrown plants from the pots directly into the open field. The seedlings are planted in the bed from the 2nd pair of leaves after the cotyledons.
Lady's mantle prefers a sunny to partially shaded location with permeable, humus-rich and loamy soil. Prepare the soil with seasoned animal manure. Avoid waterlogging.

Additional tips
In order to quickly obtain a fine, crumbly and permeable soil, we recommend additional incorporation of biochar and primary rock powder.

Type of propagation
It spreads via seeds or by dividing the rootstock.

Plant care
Regular watering causes faster growth. Beds prepared with animal manure and planting in mixed culture replace additional fertilizer.

Germination ability of seeds: 2-3 years
