Greek oregano is a perennial spice and medicinal plant and grows wild primarily in Greece, but also in Cyprus, North Macedonia and Turkey. The heat-loving, winter-hardy and drought-tolerant plant provides versatile support in relieving inflammation in the body and has a digestive and antibacterial effect. The rich essential oil, with its particularly intense aroma, has a very positive effect on the psyche. Due to its shallow root system, oregano is also suitable for green roofs. This type is the well-known typical seasoning for pizza and sauces and retains its aroma even when heated. The white flowers attract many insects.

General
Oregano needs at least 20°C to germinate. Sow directly in rows. When pre-cultivating, sow the seeds in small pots and let the seedlings grow until the first visible oregano leaves. Then plant the pregrown plants from the pots directly into the open field. The seedlings are planted in the bed from the 2nd pair of leaves after the cotyledons.
Oregano prefers a sunny location with a permeable, rather dry, humus-rich and sandy loam soil. Prepare the soil with seasoned animal manure. Avoid waterlogging.
Additional tips
In order to quickly obtain a fine, crumbly and permeable soil, we recommend additional incorporation of biochar and primary rock powder.
Type of propagation
Spread occurs via seeds or root division.
Plant care
Regular watering causes faster growth. Beds prepared with animal manure and planting in mixed culture replace additional fertilizer.
Germination ability of seeds: 2-3 years
