The small meadow button is a very old, wild and perennial medicinal, tea, spice, lettuce and animal feed plant native to Europe. The species is originally found in southern, western and central Europe as well as North Africa and Central Asia on dry meadows and on roadsides. The robust plant is undemanding and forms ovate to elliptical, coarsely toothed leaflets from a dense rosette.
The leaves have a cucumber-like scent and have a special cucumber-like and nut-like flavor. Of the versatile plant, the shoot tips, the younger leaves and the budding inflorescences are used. The classic farm garden plant is also a good bee pasture, is often used as decoration and as livestock feed. In subtropical climates, the plant continues to grow even in the summer months, thereby providing fresh green throughout the year.
