Sustainability
Nachhaltigkeit_der_Natur_-_www
We love a sustainable and clean planet!

This means we pay particular attention to the sustainability of the products we use and offer every day. Reusability, the use of sustainable resources, and our own circular waste management all contribute to sustainability.

Compostable packaging

For us, sustainability means closing the circle of nature. Product packaging that isn't reused sensibly is considered unused goods. We close the circle by using compostable packaging and organic film in addition to recycled paper for our seed packets!

Compostable packaging is not only sustainable and environmentally friendly, but also contributes to the buildup of humus in compost. Less household waste and a healthy soil structure in compost are benefits we can derive from everyday unused waste.

Benjis seeds is leading the way and is moving purposefully towards providing other people's products with compostable packaging.

Soon you will be able to find compostable product packaging to match your handmade products here on our website.

Further interesting information about plastics and their names

Bio-based plastics

These materials are made from renewable raw materials such as corn, starch, or cellulose. The resulting packaging is 100 percent compostable in its composition, leaving no residue. Although the composition can generally vary and industries add cheaper, non-compostable materials, our packaging always has 100 percent renewable and compostable properties.

Tip: Bio-based plastics are not always necessarily biodegradable. For example, sugarcane is grown in Brazil, from which bio-PET is made, which is not biodegradable.

Compostable packaging

Materials that decompose 100 percent within a specified period of time through clearly defined biological processes, such as those produced by organisms, under certain conditions. This is a new, special form of biodegradable plastics achieved using modern technologies. Our compostable packaging is made from polylactic acid (PLA), among other materials. As with bio-based plastics, packaging is also made from corn, starch, or cellulose.

Additional tip:

In the case of biodegradable plastics, the term refers only to the disposal of the materials. A plastic can be described as biodegradable if it decomposes into water and carbon dioxide within an indefinite period of time due to biological processes. Packaging with this designation does not necessarily have to be made from biological materials. This designation also says nothing about the manufacturing process.
