Tips to reduce water requirements

We recommend mulching the beds
Experience has shown that by covering the floor with hay or straw, evaporation can be reduced by 80%. If you keep the beds evenly moist, an optimal humid microclimate will be created under the mulch. This not only promotes the growth of plants, but also enormously reduces water consumption. On our farm we only water every 2-3 days and irrigate a 200 m2 cultivation area in the Algarve in Portugal with 500l of water. Our beds are always moist, which promotes plant growth and harvest quality.

It is also advisable to keep the beds moist at all times, even if the bed is not used for a certain period of time
The desiccation of the soil leads to a huge decline in micro-and macro-organisms in the soil, resulting in a barren soil over time. Tests have shown that the water content in the entire bed with full-scale irrigation remains longer than if watering is only carried out selectively. Due to the small volume of the poured surfaces, in contrast to the large dry volume, they dry out faster than if the entire volume of the bed is filled with moisture. Similar to heating in an apartment.

Maintaining an energy level always requires less energy than having to achieve it again and again.

Clary sage is one of the biennial plants that form a leaf
rosette in the first year and only develop impressive
inflorescences in the second year. Its flowers smell
pleasantly citrusy to spicy. In the past it was used to flavor
wine, today it is used as a spice or in teas. When smoked, it
acts as an aphrodisiac. If you want to attract the big
carpenter bee in your garden, clary sage is the right choice.
