The beef tomato 'San Marzano' is a perennial, ancient and traditional variety of tomatoes from Campania in Italy. This particularly tasty late bar tomato variety is ideal for soups, sauces and for the production of tomato paste. The oblong oval red fruits have a low water content and firm flesh. The taste is legendary fruity-aromatic. The disease-tolerant tomato variety is particularly characterized by its extremely robust growth and crop yield.
The San Marzano is a variety that was finally removed from the official catalog of varieties in 1991, replaced by more resistant and easy-care varieties. Thanks to an initiative by the Campania region, the gourmet variety was preserved in home gardens and can therefore be spread more widely.

General
The best time to germinate tomatoes is the first warm summer week in spring. After the seeds have germinated at warm temperatures, the seedlings need cool temperatures. We always recommend the pre-culture, for this purpose let the seedlings grow in a small bowl up to the first tomato leaves, then pik into the desired container. After peckering, let the seedlings grow at moderate temperatures until they are planted out as seedlings.
Tomatoes Prefer a sunny Location with a permeable, always moist, nutrient-rich-humus and slightly loamy soil. Prepare the soil for tomatoes with deposited animal manure. Avoid waterlogging.

Additional tips
Meat tomato plants are generally cultivated with 1 or 2 shoots. We recommend a framework for tying the tomato shoots. In order to stimulate the root growth and thus the plant growth of the plants, put the seedlings deeper into the soil, up to the leaf axis of the cotyledons. Sufficient and uniform irrigation has a positive effect on the quality of the fruit. At temperatures below 5 °C, the plant reduces its growth. A regular harvest promotes yield. In order to quickly obtain a fine, crumbly and well-drained soil, an additional incorporation of biochar and primeval rock flour is recommended.
