The shell pea Blauwschokker is an old, high-yielding and robust pea variety with thick, blue 5 to 6 cm long pods and purple flowers. It has a full-bodied taste. This variety requires a trellis.
Young, fresh pods can be enjoyed whole, raw or cooked, or eaten fresh straight away.
This shell pea, is one of the legumes and therefore one of the oldest cultivated plants. It can be proven that the first cultivation took place in the Near East and in eastern Greece around 8,000 years ago. The wild forms are of oriental origin. The original forms are the Mediterranean-West Asian fox and a fish.
