Onions
Onions originate from the dry and temperate regions of West and Central Asia, where early forms emerged from wild allium species and were already used in ancient cultures. Through trade routes they spread into Europe and other world regions, where distinct types developed over time. Their diversity includes white, yellow, red and purple varieties, as well as round, elongated or flattened forms.
In subtropical climates, onions thrive particularly well in spring and autumn, though summer can also be used successfully with sufficient irrigation. In temperate regions, all of our traditional and historically preserved open‑pollinated varieties perform reliably when grown at the right time. Onions show strong ecological adaptability and can grow successfully across many climate zones.
