Spinach

Spinach originates from the temperate and semi‑arid regions of West and Central Asia, where early forms emerged from wild goosefoot species and were already used in early cultures. Through trade routes it reached Europe, where different regional types developed over the centuries. Its diversity includes smooth‑leaved, round‑leaved and heavily crinkled forms, as well as colour shades from light to dark green. In addition, there are other spinach‑like species that are used similarly and can be grown in many climate zones.

In subtropical climates, spinach thrives only during the milder seasons, as it prefers balanced conditions and cool phases. For hot periods, other spinach‑like species are better suited. In temperate regions, all of our traditional and historically preserved open‑pollinated varieties perform reliably, growing for particularly long periods at low temperatures. Spinach shows broad ecological versatility and can thrive in different climate zones when sown at the right time.
